Dublin hosts Roscommon in Round 3 of the 2024 National Football League (Ireland) on Saturday. The Dubs have managed to lose their opening two matches of the 2024 Championship and will be looking to get their campaign going with a win on Saturday. We tell you if they will win in our latest Gaelic football betting picks.

  • What; 2024 Allianz (Gaelic) Football League Round 3
  • Who; Dublin vs. Roscommon
  • When; Saturday, February 17th, 2024
  • Where; Croke Park, Dublin, Ireland
  • Time; noon ET

Dublin’s first season back in Division 1 hasn’t gone to plan so far. In their opening match, they produced a lackluster display against Monaghan, losing by one point at home. Then, in their second match, a far more difficult proposition, they again lost by one point, this time away at Mayo.

Roscommon has started with a defeat and a draw from their two matches. They were expected to lose at Tyrone, which they did. The loss was followed by a home-field draw against Galway.

Which, given that Galway is one of the favorites to win the Championship, has to go down as a reasonable result.

Betting to win the Allianz Football League Division One

After two rounds of matches, the defending champions, Mayo, tops the division with two wins from two. They aren’t the betting favorites, though – Derry are.

Derry also has two wins from two but has a worse points difference. These are the only two teams who have a 100% win record after Round 2.

In the betting, Derry is +200 to win the division. Just behind Derry are Kerry at +225, with Mayo next at +350. Mayo are the defending champions.

Dublin is now fourth in the betting at +1000. Putting them ahead of Tyrone (+1400), Galway (+1400), Monaghan (+1600), and Saturday’s opponents Roscommon (+4000).

Dublin vs. Roscommon; Latest Form

Despite being the current All-Ireland Champions and dominating Ireland’s premier Gaelic football event over the past ten years, Dublin hasn’t enjoyed the same success in the National League over the same period.

They shared the title in 2021 and were then inexplicably relegated in 2022. Last year, they regained their place in the top division, but the early signs in 2024 suggest they are still to learn the lessons from their 2022 experience.

In their opening home match of the season, the Dubs lost to Monaghan. In what was a disappointing display, they went down 1-14(17) – 3-9(18). They followed that up with a better road-trip performance at Mayo in Round 2, losing 1-12(15) – 0-14(14).

The defeat to Mayo was more like it. Disappointing as it was to lose, that was always going to be a close match that could have gone either way.

As for Roscommon, they have started their season with one defeat and one draw. They were beaten by the better team in Round 1 as Tyrone ran out 0-17(17) – 1-11(14) winners in Omagh. That was always going to be a tough fixture, and Tyrone was clearly the stronger unit. This is despite Roscommon being the only team to land a 3-point blow in the match.

Then, in Round 2, Roscommon held on for a 0-9(9) – 0-9(9) low-scoring home-field draw against Galway. But they did surrender a three-point halftime lead in an awful match ruined by the wind. The conditions helped level the playing field, which helped the home side.

Our Dublin vs. Roscommon Gaelic Football Picks

Can we put Dublin’s poor Round 1 performance down as a one-off? Had they been well beaten by Mayo last Saturday, we are saying no. But they put up a far better showing, eventually only losing to a winning point from Fergal Boland four minutes into added time.

If that version of Dublin turns up on Saturday, they should have little problem defeating Roscommon.

At this early stage of the season, we are giving Dessie Farrell’s men the benefit of the doubt. And they also won’t want a second relegation on their Resume in three seasons, so we expect a more fired-up Dublin to take to the field at Croke Park this weekend.

For our betting picks, we still can’t be backing Dublin to win at -600. With some uncertainty, those odds are way too short. In the two-way match handicap betting, they are giving away a 5.5-point start. That looks achievable if Dublin is on song.

Our betting pick is for Dublin to win and cover at -110 with Bovada.
